School Resource Officers
Beaufort County Schools employs six School Resource Officers. Four officers are members of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and two are from the Washington Police Department. These officers play an integral role in student education with programs such as DARE and GREAT.

All law enforcement officers in North Carolina receive the same training, as mandated by the North Carolina Attorney General's Office, regarding response to a Critical Incident on a school campus. Our School Resource Officers serve as a link to area law enforcement agencies for training and in the event of an incident on campus.

School Lockdown Drills
Lock Down Drills
All schools in the county will hold Lockdown Drills on their campus. Generally, these drills will be held once per semester. The public will not be made aware of the date and time of these drills. Principals often will announce to student families a drill may be coming up in the near future by way of the Alert Now Rapid Notification Call System. In the event of an actual emergency, parents and guardians will be notified through the call system. Please make sure your contact information on file at your child's school is up to date so you can be reached immediately in the event of an emergency.
